Learn more about Dr. Célio de Castro Metropolitan Hospital, Opy Health’s first hospital to come into operation

Dr. Célio de Castro Metropolitan Hospital (HMDCC), in Belo Horizonte, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, is a public-private partnership between the city hall and Novo Metropolitano concessionaire, now managed by Opy Health.

Its construction was completed in December 2015 and, since then, the hospital has become an important benchmark in the area, having received several quality certifications. “The hospital is new, is prepared to provide care to a large number of people and offers comprehensive services. The hospital has 460 well-equipped beds and is ready to meet the needs of the public”, says Otávio Silveira, Opy Health CEO.

Regardless of being part of SUS (Brazilian Unified Healthcare System) network, it does not have an open entrance to the public and is available for clinical and surgical emergencies only. Moreover, HMDCC is a reference in highly-specialized treatments, as well as in stroke treatment. The partnership was established with Opy Health in January 2020 and will remain in force until 2035. It can be extended for 15 additional years.

HMDCC is also a highly-rated hospital in terms of digital management.

It is accredited at level 6 by HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society), a US non-governmental institution that assesses digital medical records.

The accreditation scale ranges from 0 to 7 – the highest score is extremely hard to obtain. Only 6 percent of the hospitals in the United States achieve the highest score. The assessment takes into account the quality of digital health records (medical records and exams), the efforts to avoid the use of paper records and assistance provided by automated systems in data organization and management.

As an entity responsible for technology and facilities management in HMDCC, Opy Health is committed to maintaining this rank. “We are here to boost the positive aspects, and we are committed to effective and high-quality services”, says Silveira.
